I went to Japan to photograph the Snow Monkeys but was in awe of the amazing bird that we also photographed.  First there was the Japanese Crane - beauty in motion - they dance with their partners and sometimes it appears they just dance for fun. They are called the Bird of Happiness and are a symbol in Japan of fidelity in marriage.  They exemplify the phrase, "poetry in motion".

Then comes the Whooper Swans - which are the heaviest flying bird (with weights between 16-31 lbs.), but one of the most elegant that I have ever seen. They were so beautiful to see flying into and landing on the snow and ice.  White on white with their yellow beaks - the one outstanding color against the snow.  And finally the Steller Sea Eagle - all I can say is Wow.  Their girth makes them the heaviest bird in the world with a 6 foot wind span.  It is always an amazement of nature that takes a juvenile bird like the eagle with their dull coloration and changes them into something so different in adulthood with their black, white and yellow.  See photo #2.
