The Brown Bears in this Bear Gallery represents several trips I have made to Alaska to be up close and personal with the infamous Grizzly Bears, aka, Brown Bear. Some of these images are from Brooks Lodge in Katmai and many others are from Kinak Bay in Katmai or Hallo Bay. There is nothing more exciting than to stand within 10 feet on the ground with a mom and her cubs and watch them interact - while she is teaching them all the while - the skills they will need to survive.
The Polar Bears in this Gallery were photographed on a recent trip to Svalbard in the Artic. Look it up on the map - it is really far north, a three hour plane ride north of Oslo, Norway. It was a thrill to be on an ice breaker forging through the ice pack to hopefully get a glimpse of this beautiful animal. They are very inquisitive animals and when a foreign object, like an ice breaker ship, comes into their territory, they usually come to investigate. Unless you encounter a mom with her cubs, it is likely to only see loner males wondering the ice pack. And No, I was not on the ground with these bears, like I was with the brown bears. I do not think there is a more beautiful or majestic animal on earth.
