The "Big Five" in Africa are not the only animals I love to photograph. A good image is a Reticulated Giraffe (about 15-16 feet tall) against the green acacia trees that they eat; or try to capture a fragile Thomson's Gazelle, (weight about 8 pounds) while he trys to escape the speed of the Cheetah and often wins. Another animal I love to photograph is the "pattern prints" of the zebra - each animal has a pattern as unique as the human finger print. Two other revered animals are the Panda Bear of China and the Tibetan Yak. The sturdy and sure-footed Yak dates back over 3000+ years, but that is nothing compared to the Panda Bear, believed to first appear duing the Pilocene period, no more than 2-3 million years ago. One of my favorites is the image of a Giant Tortoise at the Darwin Center in the Galapagos Islands that is believed to be over 100 years old.
